How Do We Concrete Stain Colors?

We start the work by understanding your needs and help you choose the concrete stain that fits your style and need the most. Once we have confirmed the stain and color concrete, we will proceed with the following steps.

Preparation Of The Surface

Preparing the surface is the most important step for adding stain or concrete color. The concrete should be more than four weeks old to absorb the color properly.

We start by removing all the things on the surface, and we clean them thoroughly. We also use pressure water to remove all the solid color marks.

If the concrete is old and or damaged in any way, we will fix all the cracks. After this, we make the surface completely ready for staining.

Application Of The Concrete Stain And Color

The area will dampen slightly, and we use several methods to color the concrete. Some of the methods are integral color concrete, dry shakes, and liquid release. Read a detailed explanation the project  below.

Protecting Stained Concrete Using Sealers

Applying the stain is followed by adding agents that protect the final decorative color coatings. We can achieve this using water based solutions or sealers. We use a high-quality sealers that not only provides permanent protection to the coatings but also enriches the depth of the colors.

It can protect both water based stains as well as acid dyes. Also, it is good for exterior and interior surfaces. Although exterior surfaces such as a  patio and swimming pool may require a stronger sealer that are water based.

Methods To Properly Stain And Color Concrete

To properly stain and add solid color to indoor or outdoor concrete, it takes accuracy and experience with how concrete and color mixes. This is to develop the desired finish product perfectly.

Moreover, there are different methods of coloring old or new concrete. Some of the methods of the project are stated below and explained in detail.

Integral Color Concrete

Integral Color Concrete means that the color of the cement is mixed where it was created. The color remains even when the existing concrete is broken or chipped.

Concrete Color Hardeners and Dry Shakes are tossed over the concrete surface. This step is carried out before the cement dries to help retain the color of the existing concrete.

Color hardeners can help add another layer of protection on top of the stamped concrete floors. This is to help the color stay on the surface of the stained concrete dyes and increase durability. It helps prevent the color from wearing and chipping off the stained  concrete.

Dry Shakes

During the stamping process, our contracts use Concrete Powders to prevent the mat from sticking to the stained concrete while they are shaping and molding the shape. Dry shakes help the stamps come off the concrete while leaving a pattern behind during the process of staining concrete.

Some powders have coloring properties that seep into the surface of the stained concrete to create the natural color of the material that is replicated.

Use cases of these include when the desired result is stone, brick, or stoned outdoor concrete floors. The use of powders can achieve a better stained look than release agents in these cases.

Liquid Release

Liquid Release is another option that is a solvent used to prevent the mat from sticking onto the concrete being used to stamp. It can enhance the color of the concrete floors as well.

With this option, there is a wider range of colors to choose from than powder. Concrete Staining can be used to create earth-like colors or pigmented colors that stand out.

It is done through the process of applying acid-based solvent or water-based acrylics to the surface of the stained concrete.

It is the most commonly used method to add color. Acid based or water based stains can be used on concrete that has already been colored or also during the drying process of staining concrete. It can create a more natural look by bringing out the secondary colors of the concrete.

Some types of stains can be transparent in water based dyes, which can be used to enhance other colors  and dyes that are already present in the concrete. Using the right methods can increase how long the colors will last.
